Start early

Packing early saves time and trust me, when you start early you’ll be more organized. You’ll have more time to take care about other things you need to do before moving like securing your bills and taking care of other house responsibilities. Remember that starting early prevents cramming.

Use the right size of box

Using the right size of box will safe you time and space. Put heavy items, like books, in small boxes; light items, like linens and pillows, in bigger ones. Large boxes packed with heavy items are a common complaint of professional movers. They not only make the job harder but also have a better chance of breaking.

Don’t leave empty spaces in the box

Do not waste any space in the box, if it’s still possible to place any item there, do so instead of having an empty box and filling it with stuff again. Doing that will give you lots of boxing and chances are, its not going to fit in the moving van or truck. Fill in gaps with clothing, towels, or packing paper. Movers often won’t move boxes that feel loosely packed or unbalanced.

Label your boxes

Label each box with its corresponding category and what room it belongs. This will help you and your movers know where every box belongs in your new place. Numbering each box and keeping an inventory list in a small notebook is a good way to keep track of what you’ve packed―and to make sure you still have everything when you unpack. You can label your boxes through a marker or even something color-coded.

Pack a bag containing all the essentials

Keep your essentials within easy access, including a change of clothes if you’re going back to work the next day as well as all your toiletries.
